2km Chandor subway detour upsets locals

Margao: Former BJP Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias on Sunday said that the removal of the level crossing at Chandor and replacement with a Limited Height Subway (LHS) while proving helpful to the locals in many ways, has also inconvenienced them as heavy vehicles cannot pass through the LHS, which has a 2.7m barrier height.

The PWD, in collaboration with the Railways, has built a new road connecting Chandor to Margao that bypasses the subway, but for people living in the vicinity of the LHS, taking this road involves a 2km detour just to get to their houses.

Pointing out that people have already made a representation to the authorities, Dias urged the government to provide a solution to the issue at the earliest. “The government can think of constructing an alternative road to redress the grievances of the locals. Also, the existing road needs to be widened to ensure smooth movement of vehicles,” Dias said.
