142 French language teachers from 7 countries upgrade skills at GU
Panaji: Over 140 French language teachers from seven Asian countries recently underwent training at Goa University, which hosted the BELC India 2026 (Bureau d’Études des Langues et des Cultures), an international French teachers‘ training programme.
Altogether, 142 French language teachers from India, Cambodia, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Vietnam participated in the sessions to upgrade their pedagogical skills.
The programme covered a broad range of pedagogical themes, including teaching French for academic purposes, integrating gamification in French as a foreign language (FFL) classroom, and designing activities to strengthen oral language skills.
Teachers also worked on podcast project creation, the use of radio and digital news media from a beginner level, memory development techniques for language learners, and the use of literary texts.
“BELC India 2026 highlighted Goa University’s growing role as a centre for international academic exchange, sending 142 educators back to classrooms across six countries with renewed skills and a shared commitment to French language teaching,” said Prof Anuradha Wagle, dean, Shenoi Goembab School of Languages and Literature (SGSLL), Goa University.
BELC India 2026, hosted by Goa University was organised by France Education Internationale (FEI), the French Embassy in India, and the French Institute in India (IFI). The training sessions were conducted by master trainers from FEI.
Gregor Trumel, IFI director, said the programme was held under the guidance of the French language and education division of the ministry of Europe and foreign affairs and the International Federation of French Language Teachers (FIPF), in collaboration with Institut francais, Radio France Internationale, Goyal, Langers, and the Alliance Francaise in India.
At the end of the five-day training, certificates were then presented to all participants.
