While 1,000 police personnel will help keep the Old Goa complex safe, 300 will be on duty in Panaji for Iffi, said North Goa superintendent of police, Akshat Kaushal.

Aside from metal detectors, sand bunkers, and armed police, quick-reaction teams of the ATS commandos have been stationed at strategic locations to keep threats at bay.

“Keeping in mind all the security concerns, we have set up an elaborate arrangement,” Kaushal said. “The Goa police are committed to ensuring people’s safety. We are working with the Church and the Exposition committee to address any security concerns.”

The 1,000 police personnel deployed at Old Goa will be on duty for three shifts, with sub-inspectors, inspectors, and DySPs on hand. Goa police have erected several watchtowers, created sand bunkers, and installed 400 CCTV cameras, which will be monitored from a central control room.

“Watchtowers allow police to keep a watch on people using binoculars. Drones will also be used,” the SP said. “A dedicated drone will oversee the security arrangements.” At the same time, 300 police personnel will be stationed all over Panaji to monitor the Iffi event.

“Arrangements are in place at all venues, and elaborate security is focused on inaugural and closing ceremonies,” Kaushal said.
