‘12% budget allocation must for tribal welfare’

Margao: Water resources minister Subhash Shirodkar emphasised the importance of protecting tribal rights during the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of the tribal icon Birsa Munda on Friday. The state-level function held at Canacona drew attention to the pressing issues of the welfare of tribal community and their constitutional entitlements.

Shirodkar stressed the necessity of maintaining the 12% budgetary allocation under the tribal sub-plan, highlighting its crucial role in tribal welfare.

Drawing from his experience in the Shiroda constituency, he shared how a comprehensive population survey of scheduled tribe community and the OBC communities led to more effective infrastructure development and grievance redressal.

Poinguinim sarpanch Savita Tawadkar advocated for including Birsa Munda’s life story in school curriculum to educate future generations about his remarkable legacy.
