12 arrested at Assagao for gambling
Panaji: Early on Wednesday morning, Anjuna police conducted a raid at a flat of Royal Assagao Resort at Assagao, based on specific information about an online betting gang operating there.
During the raid, 12 accused were caught red-handed engaging in online gambling with the transactions amounting to Rs 3,50,000.
The accused have been identified as Asalam Mohammad, Mohmed Hussain, Vaseem Mohammad, and Ayan Ali Bukhari from Rajasthan; and Azaan Irfan Nagori, Vahora Mohammad Abdulkarim, and Vahoram Salimbhai from Gujarat.
The other accused from Gujarat are Mehon Alfaz Abdulrasid and Pathan Dilshan Khan. The other accused from Rajasthan are Mohammad Afzal Khan Sorgar, Mohammed Inayat Shah, and Sharafat Khan Bhishti.
All the accused in the case are aged between 19 and 24 years, police said.
During the raid, Anjuna police seized seven laptops, eight mobile phones of different makes and models, and other gambling-related paraphernalia.
A case has been registered against the accused, invoking Sections 3 & 4 of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976.
