100% cashless economy not possible: CM

: Reality seems to have dawned finally on the state BJP government as chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar came to terms with the fact that it would be nearly impossible to eliminate cash transactions in the state.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event,

accepted that ‘cent per cent cashless transactions’ were not possible. Parsekar’s admission comes a day after Goa Bank Employees’ Association, and the

All India Bank Employees Association

(AIBEA) said that adopting a cashless economy was not possible in a state like Goa.

“We are actually looking at less-cash transactions, not cashless transactions, not cent-per-cent cashless. There will always be transactions in cash. We can not do away with it,” Parsekar said.

Defence

minister Manohar Parrikar had made headlines saying that Goa would be the first to state to go completely cashless by December 31, an announcement that baffled many bureaucrats and citizens.
