Ghaziabad: Police rescued a 2-year-old girl who went missing from her home 15 days ago and arrested a 45-year-old woman for kidnapping her.
According to police, the accused, Haseena, a resident of Modinagar, wanted to make the child beg for her. She lured the child by promising to buy her a bottle of cold drink.
The child’s mother,
Jyoti, said she lives in a rented house near Radhe Dairy in Muradnagar. She has five children and begs for a living.
“On March 10, I left my elder daughter (8) along with my 2-year-old child at home and went out to beg. When I came back, my younger daughter was missing. I searched on my own in nearby slums and went as far as Ghaziabad but could not find her.
Then on March 18, I went to Muradnagar police station to lodge a missing complaint,” she said.
ACP of Masuri Lipi Nagayach said teams were formed to investigate the matter. More than 100 CCTV cameras were checked by cops and there, Haseena was seen with the child.
“During interrogation, the accused stated she lives in the Jagatpuri Balmiki Basti jhuggi jhopdi in Modinagar and works as a ragpicker. Her husband passed away and her two children live with her sister. After kidnapping the child, she boarded a bus and went to Meerut. Today, she was looking for an opportunity to flee to Lucknow when the police caught her,” the ACP said.
