Ghaziabad: A 45-year-old Uzbekistan national who underwent a successful liver transplant on May 26 and was to be released this week allegedly died by suicide at a private hospital in Vaishali.
Julfya, who came to the city on May 5 with her husband Khairula and son Nurbek, was found hanging in the bathroom of Max Hospital on Tuesday afternoon by the hospital staff.
It is suspected the woman was depressed after the long illness and surgery.
Indirapuram ACP Swatantra Singh said the Kaushambi police station was informed about the incident around 1.30 pm by the hospital staff. Hospital administration said Julfya was briefly admitted to the hospital on May 6 and discharged two days later. On May 24, she was readmitted for the surgery. “Post-surgery, Julfya was admitted at a private room in the tower 2 of the hospital,” the ACP said.
Khairula raised an alarm after the woman went to the bathroom and did not come out for a long time. When the hospital staff opened the door, Julfya was found hanging from a towel hook.
“Despite efforts, the patient could not be revived. We informed the police and are cooperating with the probe,” a hospital representative said.
Police said autopsy reports are awaited. They have also informed the ministry of external affairs in Delhi.
