Truck topples after driver falls asleep, woman on cot dies
Ghaziabad: A 26-year-old woman, sleeping on the footpath adjacent to NH 9 near Gaur Green society in Indirapuram, died after a truck toppled on her in the early hours of Friday. The truck driver has been arrested. According to police, he fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle.
The woman was a native of Amroha. Her body was sent for autopsy.
ACP Swatantra Singh said, “The truck driver was taking a turn near Gaur Green society when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle.

As a result, the truck veered off the road onto the footpath and toppled on the cot the woman was sleeping on,” he said.
“A police team reached the spot after locals informed us. We took the woman to a nearby private hospital, where she was declared dead. The woman lived in the jhuggi near the area with her husband. She sold ayurvedic medicine on the footpath. At the time of the incident, her husband, Neependra, was sleeping in a tent nearby,” the ACP added.
“Delhi resident Kanhaiya (30) told police he fell asleep and lost control of the truck while taking the turn. An FIR has been registered against him under the BNS sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving). The truck has been seized,” he said.
