Scrapped 3 yrs back, GMC set to relaunch 70cr ITMS
Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation is planning to reintroduce the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) that it had abandoned in 2020 citing doubts over the firm that won the contract. The Rs 70-crore project is proposed to cover 41 stretches and roundabouts with pan tilt zoom cameras, red light vehicle detection cameras, public address systems, surveillance junction and speed violation detection cameras, according to the project report. Automatic number plate readers, linked to FASTag, will also be installed at 16 points. The civic body has already prepared a project report and sent it to IIT-Kanpur for vetting before inviting bidders.“The GMC has prepared a project report for the ITMS project following a city-wide survey and discussion with stakeholders, including the traffic department. Based on the report we have shortlisted 41 traffic junctions and roundabouts,” chief civic engineer N K Choudhary said. These locations include the Hapur tri-junction to Mohan Nagar, Mohan Nagar to Seemapuri border, Tulsi Niketan to Nag Dwar, Elevated Road to Hapur Chungi, ALT to Meerut tri-junction, Hapur Chungi to Atma Ram Steels, Old Bus Adda to Ambedkar Road and Hapur tri-junction to Lal Kuan. The estimated cost for installing the ITMS is Rs 55.5 crore while operation and maintenance is likely to cost Rs 14.4 crore.“ANPRs will also be installed in at least 16 locations. Cameras fitted in these devices can capture registration number plates of speeding vehicles and other traffic violators and send challans directly to the erring drivers. The ITMS system will be linked with the Regional Traffic Office database,” Choudhary said. The ITMS will be linked to a 24x7 command centre set up at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore.
