No relief from power cuts, Gzb residents sweat it out

Ghaziabad: Residents continue to face power outages as temperatures soar to 43 degrees Celsius. The problem has been aggravated in urban areas such as Indirapuram, Vasundhara, Vaishali, Rajnagar Extension, Crossings Republic, and Kavinagar, as well as in rural parts like Vijay Nagar, Nandgram, and Govindpuram. The outages are primarily attributed to local faults caused by overloading and planned shutdowns for repair works.The excessive heat has led to a surge in power demand, which has risen to 1450-1500 MW. The power demand in Indirapuram, Vaishali, and Vasundhara alone has reached 550MW. “Overloading and tripping issues have caused circuit breakers and jumpers to become loose or blow up due to excessive heat. The power department is actively working to resolve these issues and minimise inconvenience to residents during the summer,” said Ajay Ojha, chief engineer of Zone 3, PVVNL.As residents face intermittent to prolonged outages, some are relying on diesel generators. Rohit Maheshwari, a resident of Raj Nagar Extension, stated, “There have been power cuts for nearly 3 hours during daytime. We are currently using diesel generators to cope with the power cuts.”“There were approximately 16-hour outages in our area last week due to supply issues from Rathi Steels,” said Ujjwal Mishra, president of Crossings Republik AOA Federation. He added that the situation had improved, and the supply was back to normal on Friday.Devender Singh Malik from Rajendra Nagar said, “There are power cuts ranging from half an hour to 4 hours in our area.” Sahibabad residents, too, continue to experience frequent power cuts due to local faults. In Siddharth Vihar, maintenance work on electrical lines has been the cause behind power cuts. “Local faults are being noted due to equipment overheating. Also, planned shutdowns are underway for infrastructure repair and revamp schemes in various parts of the city, including the installation of an additional transformer in Nandgram,” said Ojha.
