GHAZIABAD: A 78-year-old woman in
Ghaziabad was attacked by her neighbour with an ice pick on Friday. The suspect has been detained by police, said officials.
According to Poonam Mishra, assistant commissioner of police, Nandgram, the incident occurred in Ramnagar, which falls under the Sihani Gate police station area. "The suspect is identified as Ravindra, 40, who is suspected of attacking and injuring his 68-year-old neighbour.
He has been detained and a case has been registered under relevant sections," said Mishra.
The ACP said that the accused had attacked the woman as she refused to give him money for liquor. "The suspect is believed to have asked the woman for money many times. As she lived alone, she would oblige him out of affection. But this time, she refused, and so he attacked her out of anger," said Mishra.
The elderly woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained injuries from the ice pick attack and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Medical authorities have stated that her condition is stable, and she is currently undergoing treatment for her wounds. The extent of her injuries has not been revealed, but it is believed that she will make a full recovery.
