Ghaziabad: The district and sessions court convicted a 37-year-old man on Monday for the murder of his wife in 2017 at Loni. The accused, Mukesh Kumar was a factory worker and had married Arti Kumari in 2014. “Arti’s elder brother Vinod Kumar lodged a police complaint in Loni against Mukesh and his family on Dec 19, 2017,” said Rajesh Chand Sharma, district govt counsel (DGC). “ Mukesh and his family had been asking for Rs 1 lakh and a motorcycle as dowry. They killed her when the dowry demands were not fulfilled,” Kumar said in the FIR.
“According to the autopsy report, Arti had injury marks around her neck and died as a result of strangulation,” said Dr Sanjay Kumar. “Mukesh, his father Ved Prakash, and his brothers Sonu and Raju were arrested and sent to judicial custody,” an officer said. Mukesh denied all charges against him and opted for a trial.
During the trial, Kumar informed the court that Mukesh had a drinking problem.
The court has convicted Mukesh under Section 302 (murder) of IPC and acquitted him of dowry death,” said Anil Kumar, district sessions judge.
“He is sentenced to life imprisonment and is fined Rs 25,000 under IPC Section 302 (murder),” the court said. TNN
