The accused has been identified as Sumit Singh alias Bablu, a resident of Painga village in Niwadi. The victims have been identified as

Preetam Singh

(70) and his son Subhash (35). They were found dead in their field on December 23.

Police had suspected the murders were committed by Singh’s younger son Sumit over a family dispute. He was absconding. Investigations had revealed that Sumit had been living separately from his father Preetam and his family.

SP (city)

Shlok Kumar

said Sumit was caught around 10.40 pm on Friday from near Sherpur intersection in Niwadi. During interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime. The weapon used in the crime was also recovered. “Preetam Singh was a retired Armyman and worked as a guard in a State Bank of India branch in Niwadi. He owned a 22 bigha land, out of which he had given seven bighas to Sumit. The rest was given to Subhash, which was the cause of contention.

“On December 23, Sumit was in his field to harvest sugarcane. Preetam and Subhash also reached there and started sowing wheat in Sumit’s land. This infuriated him and an argument ensued. He attacked his brother and after fatally injuring him, killed his father as well,” Kumar said.
