Man, aunt end life over 'illicit affair'

GHAZIABAD: A 30-year-old man and his aunt allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a speeding train in

Muradnagar

on Thursday morning.

According to police, the duo was in an

illicit relationship

and their respective family members were opposing it for some time. The man was a vegetable vendor, while the 35-year-old woman was married to a Bhowapur resident and had two kids.

Eyewitnesses told police that the duo was spotted sitting under a tree near the tracks behind the

KIET Group of Institution

around 9 am.

After some time when

was passing through the tracks and going towards Ghaziabad, they jumped in front of it. A call was made to the police and their badly crushed bodies were subsequently sent for post-mortem.

SHO (Muradnagar)

Lakshendra Singh

told TOI, “The family members of both the victims have given applications about the incident. They told us that the woman's husband was an alcoholic and that she had been living with her mother near Ordnance Factory for some time. The man lived nearby. The families did not approve of their relationship.”

The was the grandson of woman's maternal uncle. No suicide note has been found near the spot.

“Further investigation is being done in the matter,” Singh added.
