Man who led attack on minority families in Ghaziabad’s slum arrested
ACP Kavi Nagar Abhishek Srivastava told TOI they have verified the identity of the people residing in the slum cluster. “The accused has claimed these families were Bangladeshi infiltrators. These claims are false. We have ascertained their identities during our investigations,” he said.
The FIR was registered against Tomar and his men under BNS sections 191(2) (rioting), 354 (sexual harassment), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 117(4) (group of five or more persons acting in concert commits murder on the grounds of race, caste or community), 299 (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 324(5) (damage to property). He was arrested late on Saturday.
Over the years, Tomar has been involved in several communal episodes, including hate speeches at Jantar Mantar for which he was booked in 2021.
On Thursday, Tomar’s aide Daksh Chaudhary, who had attacked Congress candidate Kanhaiya Kumar during the LS campaign earlier this year in Delhi, was identified by Delhi Police as one of the men who had assaulted some people from Delhi’s Shastri Park on Thursday claiming that they were from Bangladesh.
