Man held for killing wife 3 yrs ago, in-laws on the run
Ghaziabad: A 40-year-old man was arrested from the city’s railway station on Wednesday for allegedly killing his wife in Greater Noida’s Badalpur in 2020. Police said on April 1 that year, Ravikant Parashar, from Ghaziabad’s Kotwali, was drinking alcohol with his brother Vikrant (38) and brother-in-law Mahendra Sharma (42), when his wife, Anju, tried to stop them. It lead to a heated argument, following which the men thrashed Anju to death. “Ravikant was visiting his brother’s house in Badalpur and was joined by his brother-in-law, who lived nearby. There, the trio partied while Anju was cooking them a dinner. Since Ravikant was already inebriated, Anju tried to stop him from consuming more alcohol as they had to return home the same night. But Vikrant and Mahendra opposed Anju. She then kicked an alcohol bottle, after which the trio started beating her up. They smashed her head on a wall of the house, killing her,” said DCP (city) Kunwar Gyananjay Singh. On April 2, 2020, locals found Anju’s body in a drain near a railway track in Badalpur and informed the cops. “The Noida police sent the body for an autopsy, and the reports revealed death due to multiple head and body injuries. An FIR was then registered against unknown persons under IPC sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender), and 130B (aiding escape of, rescuing, or harbouring such prisoner). However, the body wasn’t identified, and as per the rule, the cops cremated it,” added Singh. The Ghaziabad police came to know about the case around two weeks ago when Anju’s father filed a complaint with the commissioner’s office alleging that Ravikant was not allowing him to meet his daughter.Police commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra then transferred the case to DCP Singh. Singh formed a team and went to Ravikant’s house, but the latter had already vacated the rented accommodation. The police said he was continuously changing houses, which made it difficult to track him down. “Ravikant was arrested from the railway station. He told us that he had been living there for the past few days,” said the police officer. Subsequently, Ghaziabad police contacted their Noida counterpart and got the woman’s belongings, which were identified by her parents. Cops are now on a hunt to track down the other two accused.
