GHAZIABAD: The secretary of a city-based co-operative housing society was arrested on Saturday following a non-bailable warrant issued against him by a local court. The accused, Ravi Dutt Sharma, had been charge-sheeted in cases pertaining to cheating and fraud in 2016.
Sharma, who is nearly 50 years old, had allegedly duped several persons with fake receipts after charging money from them for providing plots.
He was arrested from his Kavi Nagar residence. Police said, Sharma is the secretary of AJP Parishad Co-operative Housing Society. Sources said he got the position in 2013 following the death of then secretary, Narendra Tomar. The latter was murdered in 2013.
“Sharma is accused of cheating and forgery for reneging on his promise to provide plots to various people after taking money from them. Two cases had been registered against him in Indirapuram police station in 2016 against which he was chargesheeted. We’re trying to find out if he has any other pending criminal cases against him,” said SSP
Upendra Kumar Agarwal. So far, police have found Sharma’s name in at least 60 cases pertaining to fraud, cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy registered in various police stations. However, police confirmed that he was not an accused in the murder of the former secretary of the housing society, Narendra Tomar.
