Ghaziabad: The headless body of a man was discovered by the roadside in the Tila Mod area of the city on Saturday morning, police said.
According to police, the man, probably in his 20s, is suspected to have been murdered elsewhere and his body was dumped in Tila Mod.
A team from the Tila Mod police station rushed to the spot after a passerby alerted the authorities through the 112 emergency helpline around 6.45am. The body has been sent for an autopsy, the cops said.
“The body, which had an orange shirt and black trousers on, was found lying on the side of Loni Bhopura Road opposite Aashirvaad Green, with the head severed from the neck. Officials were dispatched to investigate,” said Siddhartha Gautam, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Shalimar Garden.
Police stations in the district and surrounding areas have been notified, and manual surveillance is underway.
Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the area for potential leads, as the preliminary investigation suggests that the man was murdered and beheaded elsewhere, with his body then discarded here.
“The body did not have any visible injury marks apart from the neck wound. The field unit has photographed and videographed the remains, and legal proceedings have been initiated. We are awaiting the autopsy report,” said Gautam, adding that efforts to identify the deceased were on.
The police said no case had been registered yet. Further action will be taken after the body is identified.
