Friend killed cab driver over love affair: Police

, whose body was found with multiple stab wounds along NH-24 on Thursday, had been murdered by a

friend

with whom he had had a dispute over their ties to a woman.

Police arrived at the motive behind Aas Mohammad’s murder after questioning his four friends, who were arrested on a complaint by the family. Police said Mohammad and his friend Umesh Kumar, also a cab driver and resident of Dalautpura in Sihani Gate, were in love with the same 25-year-old woman, who is from Delhi’s Shahdara.

When Mohammad did not back out of the relationship despite repeated warnings, Umesh hatched a plot to murder him along with three others – Mohammad Haroon, a resident of Masuri; Rajesh and Vinod, both from Sihani Gate.

Mohammad lived with his mother, wife and two children in Sarai Nazar Ali. On Wednesday, he had left home around 7 pm, saying he was going to attend a party with his friends, but did not return home till next morning. A search was launched for him and his family members were informed by police about a body found lying along NH-24. Mohammad’s family later identified the body.
