Ghaziabad: A domestic staffer allegedly stole around Rs 1 lakh in cash along with 30 watches and other valuables from the house of a doctor in Abhay Khand-1, Indirapuram on Tuesday. The staffer had pretended to be the mother of a house help that the doctor had previously hired through an advertisement on Facebook.
Complainant Sonali Tripathi, who resides in HIG flats in Abhay Khand-1, told cops that she had come across an advertisement on Facebook where a man identified as Montu was offering house help for hire.
Tripathi said she needed someone who would be available 24/7 for her housework and to provide care for her pet dog and contacted the man.
On July 21, a woman identified as Aditi (20) arrived at her house for work, however, she decided not to continue working there and left ten days later, Tripathi claimed. On Aug 1, Manju (45) arrived at Tripathi’s home and identified herself as Aditi’s mother. She offered to take over the work for her daughter and Tripathi hired her for the job.
At the time, Tripathi’s mother had been staying at the house, and Manju would regularly ask when she would be returning to her hometown, Tripathi said. The doctor further alleged that Manju would sometimes switch off the CCTV cameras and she had even reprimanded her for it.
On Aug 5, Tripathi’s mother left for her hometown. Later, on the morning of Aug 6, while Tripathi slept, Manju allegedly stole Rs 1 lakh, a collection of 30 watches, a phone, a laptop, and various jewellery items from the house.
“She fled after locking the house gate from the outside. When I awoke, I sought assistance from a neighbour to open the gate. After that, I realized the robbery had occurred and notified the police about the incident,” Tripathi alleged.
ACP (Indirapuram) Swatantra Singh said that an FIR has been registered against unknown persons under section 306 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) of the BNS.
“We have obtained some CCTV footage from the victim's house, and teams have been dispatched to apprehend the accused. Police are also communicating with Delhi cops regarding the incident,” he said.
