Counting centre at Anaj Mandi turns a fortress after intel on violence

Ghaziabad: Security was beefed up around the counting centre at Anaj Mandi in Govindpuram on Tuesday after a tip-off about the possibility of post-counting violence.Hundreds of high-resolution CCTV cameras were installed around the area, and a monitoring room was established in Paramjeet Hall within the police line. DCP (rural) Vivek Yadav was appointed as monitoring room in-charge.Additionally, 150 quick response team (QRT) units were formed to address any emergencies. A PAC battalion and two CISF battalions were also deployed at the counting centre on Tuesday.Prior to receiving the intel from the security agency, around 2,000 police personnel had already been deployed at the spot to ensure safety at the counting centre. However, it was increased to 3,500 personnel.Traffic movement was restricted from Hapur Chungi towards Govindpuram Anaj Mandi for all vehicles, while vehicles were prohibited from Dasna Flyover towards Hapur Chungi. Commissioner of police Ajay Kumar Mishra said no vehicles were allowed within a 3km radius of Anaj Mandi on Tuesday. Only individuals with a pass issued by the administration were allowed. “A heavy police force along with PAC and CISF were deployed at the counting place for any emergency,” Mishra said.Traffic diversions were in place and, until Tuesday evening, the only problem that arose near the area was traffic congestion, police said.
