Constable killed in gunfight during Noida police raid in Ghaziabad's Masuri village

A 27-year-old Uttar Pradesh police constable, Saurabh Kumar, lost his life in a gunfight with criminals in Ghaziabad's Nahal Village. The Noida police team, without informing local authorities, had entered Masuri to arrest Qadir, wanted in a robbery case. After Qadir's arrest, a group of people attacked the police, leading to a shootout where Saurabh was fatally wounded.

GHAZIABAD: A 27-year-old constable attached to the Uttar Pradesh police force was killed during a gunfight with criminals in Nahal Village under the jurisdiction of Masuri village. Police registered an FIR and started an investigation.According to the police, the deceased was identified as Saurabh Kumar, a resident of Shamli. He was posted at the Phase-3 police station in Noida.A team from the Noida Phase-3 police station went to Nahal Village in Masuri to arrest a wanted person without informing the Ghaziabad police. All the officers were in civilian dress.Surendra Nath Tiwari, DCP of Rural, said that at 11:55 pm on Sunday, they received information that a police personnel from the Noida police was shot and taken to a nearby private hospital for a medical emergency. Later, when a police team arrived, they learned that Constable Saurabh Kumar died during a gunfight with criminals in Masuri.“A team of Noida police came to arrest Qadir, a resident of Nahal Village, Masuri, who was wanted in a robbery case in Noida. They didn't inform the local police regarding their raid in Masuri,” the DCP said.A senior police officer stated that the Noida police arrested Qadir, and as they were leaving in their car, around a dozen people intervened.
They first pelted stones at the vehicle, prompting the officers to exit the car to tackle them. Suddenly, gunfire erupted from both sides, during which Saurabh received bullet wounds to the head. He died during treatment in the hospital. While Qadir was arrested by Noida police and after the attack, they handed over to Ghaziabad police. Around 16 cases like robbery, theft have been registered against Qadir in different police stations in Ghaziabad, Noida and Delhi-NCR. This is not the first time the Noida police entered Ghaziabad to arrest a criminal illegally.On November 26, 2023, locals beat up a Noida police team in Masuri village after a road rage incident. They also snatched a govt pistol from the head constable when he tried to drive away and vandalised his car. Four police personnel injured in the case are receiving treatment in a private hospital. At that time, the Noida police reached Masuri village by tracing two missing mobile phones.
