Ghaziabad: A head constable with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Delhi surrendered to an additional chief judicial magistrate’s court in
Ghaziabad on Thursday in connection with a 22-year-old bike theft case. Sajid, a native of Pasonda in Ghaziabad, is currently employed at the CBI’s RK Puram office.
According to Khalid Khan, the advocate representing the victim whose bike was stolen, Sajid was wanted in a 2002 bike theft case from the Sahibabad police station area.
“He was also wanted in some bike thefts in Baghpat and Delhi. He had been absconding court proceedings since October 9, 2014. A non-bailable warrant was also issued against him in this regard,” he said.
Khan added that Sajid had secured a job without revealing his criminal background.
“Sajid did not reveal his criminal cases and managed to get a job as a constable first in Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) a few years ago and then switched to CBI on a deputation basis,” he stated.
Due to his failure to appear in court, Ghaziabad police began searching for Sajid.
They visited his native village and discovered he was working with the CBI in Delhi’s RK Puram.
“A team from Ghaziabad police reached the CBI office in Delhi and informed his senior officials about the matter. Following this, Sajid surrendered in Ghaziabad court on Thursday,” said Khan.
The court subsequently placed Sajid in a judicial custody of 14 days.
