35-year-old dies as bus hits bike, runs over him

Ghaziabad: A 35-year-old man on a bike was run over by a bus near the Madhuban Bapudham area on Tuesday. The driver fled the scene with the bus soon after the accident.The deceased, Sandeep Silelan, a resident of Vijay Nagar, was heading to the police lines on his bike when a speeding bus hit him from behind, police said.Silelan was a cleaning worker in the Delhi municipality.Passersby and locals informed the police. A team immediately reached the spot and rushed Sandeep to a nearby hospital for medical attention. During treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.ACP (Kavi Nagar) Abhishek Srivastava said that cops were alerted around 8am on Monday.“Silelan was thrown off his bike when the bus hit his bike. As he fell on the road, the bus, which was at high speed, couldn't control and ran over him,” the ACP said.The body of the deceased has been sent for autopsy and reports are awaited.His family has been informed and legal proceedings are in process.“The police have formed two teams and are checking the CCTV cameras of the nearby spot to identify the bus number or trace the culprit in the case. Police are also questioning the eyewitnesses,” added Srivastava.Based on the complaint lodged by the deceased’s family members, an FIR has been registered against the unknown bus driver under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code in Madhuban Bapudham police station.
