Ghaziabad: A 20-year-old man allegedly staged his own kidnapping to get money from his father. Police said they traced his mobile location and found him at a hotel room in Delhi on Monday after his father filed a complaint.
Abhishek Kumar, a second-year BCom student, was preparing for the chartered accountant examination. A resident of Kavi Nagar, Abhishek’s father Arun Kumar is a construction contractor.
Abhishek Srivastava, ACP of Kavi Nagar, told TOI that around 7.30pm on Sunday, Arun informed police that his son had been kidnapped. Arun said the kidnappers demanded money using Abhishek’s phone, and they had transferred Rs 1 lakh from his son’s account to another account.
“Police lodged an FIR under IPC Section 364A (kidnapping for ransom) at Kavi Nagar police station and started an investigation. Abhishek had told his family that he was going to meet a friend and left his house around 1pm on Sunday. Police later traced his phone in Paharganj in Delhi. At 12.08am, we got the boy from a hotel room and brought him to Ghaziabad,” he said.
“During interrogation, Abhishek told the police that he had taken Rs 1 lakh from his parents and grandparents to invest in the stock market, but he lost the money. Then he planned to extort money from his parents for the investment. On Sunday, he took an auto-rickshaw to reach Shaheed Sthal Metro Station. He then went to New Delhi Railway Station via Kashmiri Gate metro station where he made the first call. He changed his voice while talking to his parents. Later, he went to ITO metro station from New Delhi railway station and took an auto-rickshaw to reach Paharganj,” the ACP said.
