Ghaziabad: A
budget of Rs 11 crore has been sanctioned by the state govt for the
development of 12 secondary schools in city under the Alankar project. Various work, such as the development of infrastructure, will take place in the schools with the funds.
According to officials, the district education department received Rs 5.5 crore, which is 50% of the allocated funds, in March. However, the code of conduct during the Lok Sabha election caused delays in issuing tenders for the proposed works.
Rajesh Kumar Srivastava, the district school inspector, mentioned that a budget proposal was submitted to the government in August 2023, detailing the specific requirements of the schools.
“The funds will be used to provide various facilities, such as drinking water, construction of new classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and other essential amenities. The approved proposal of Rs 11 crore will address these needs,” he said.
The 12 secondary schools selected for the revamp under Project Alankar include Government Inter College (GIC) Nandgram, GIC Teori, Government Higher Secondary School Kushaliya, Government Higher Secondary School (HSS) Nahali, Government Higher Secondary School Atrauli, and Government Higher Secondary School Saidpur.
Srivastava further said, “One of the key components of the project is the construction of multipurpose halls in several schools in the city. These halls will serve as venues for sports, art, and other extracurricular activities, fostering the overall development of students.”
Meanwhile, some school principals have raised concerns about drinking water facilities.
“The project will address the need for drinking water facilities in GIC Hussainpur, Daulna. Additionally, separate toilets for boys and girls will be constructed at Government Higher Secondary School Atrauli, ensuring proper sanitation and hygiene,” said the official.
The project also includes the establishment of a physics and chemistry laboratory at GIC Machhri and a biology laboratory at the Government Girls Inter College Premnagar, enabling students to engage in practical learning experiences.
Sports grounds will be developed at Government Girls Inter College in Vijayanagar, GIC Nandgram, and Government Higher Secondary School Noorpur, encouraging students to participate in sports activities and promoting physical fitness.
"Most of the govt schools are very old and require development. The National Education Policy 2020 provides for advanced learning; however, the schools lack basic amenities to make this a reality. It is a good step that schools will now get facilities such as laboratories and sports,” said a teacher from one of the govt schools in Ghaziabad.
