103 primary schools in Gzb get smart classes

Ghaziabad: A total of 103 smart class setups have been installed in govt primary schools in the city. Officials said on Saturday that the measure aims to address the low enrolment ratio in the district, as highlighted by a recent report from the state education department, which stated that at least 84 primary schools in Ghaziabad have fewer than 50 students.Educators attribute the low enrolment primarily to parents’ preference for private schools over govt institutions, citing the latter’s inability to provide advanced learning methods and quality education. Madan, a resident of Raj Nagar, said, “So far, govt schools have failed to provide quality education, with fewer advanced learning methods as compared to private ones. Moreover, we do not want our kids to suffer the way we did. The foundation needs to be strong. The move is good for the students and is much needed in the digital era.”However, several teachers assert that proper infrastructure and training are essential to effectively implement the smart class initiative. Each school has received Rs 2.8 lakh for infrastructural development. OP Yadav, the basic shiksha adhikari of GB Nagar, stated, “The department plans to transform all 446 schools with smart classes. Teachers will also get special training for the classes.”

Class 9 student assaults mate with sickle in Tirunelveli school

A Class 9 student at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Tirunelveli attacked a classmate with a sickle due to a water spill argument. The incident left the victim with minor injuries treated at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. The attacker was detained and presented before the Juvenile Justice Board, while police are addressing increasing school violence in the area.

Primary classes in Kashmir suspended due to heatwave

Due to a persistent heatwave, classes for students up to primary level in both government and private schools in Kashmir were suspended on July 29 and 30, 2024. Teaching staff were instructed to continue their duties. In South Kashmir, residents sought relief in local ponds and canals to counter the summer heat intensified by global warming.
