arrested a
DMK functionary
, his son and his relative in connection with a fraudulent case in the city on Friday.
The accused have been identified as ‘Kottai’ Ramu, 47, of Erode, his son R Arunkumar, 20, and relative Thangarajan, 45.
According to the district crime branch police,
Gokula Kannan
, 46, of Jeganathapuram Colony, runs a cotton cloth manufacturing unit in the city.
Gokula Kannan had provided cotton materials worth Rs 4.55 crore between November 2018 and April 26, 2019, to Ramu to manufacture dhotis. “Ramu did not pay any amount for those materials,” an officer in the district crime branch police said.
On Thursday morning, Gokula Kannan approached Ramu demanding his payment for the cotton materials. “Ramu suddenly threatened him by brandishing a knife,” the officer said.
Based on a complaint from Gokula Kannan, the crime branch police arrested Ramu, his son and his relative on Thursday evening. The accused were lodged at the Gobichettipalayam sub-jail under judicial custody.
