Days after murdering his friend, man surrenders before police

: A 32-year-old man surrendered before the Punjaipuliyampatty police on Tuesday for bludgeoning his friend to death using a steel rod after knocking him down with a van.


K Murugan, 40, of Uyilampalayam near Punjaipuliyampatty, died in road accident after his bike was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle on September 6.

The Punjaipuliyampatty police registered a case as accident and sent the body to the

Sathyamangalam

government hospital for postmortem.

The postmortem report revealed that Murugan was severely beaten up using a heavy material after he was knocked down by a vehicle.

Police initiated inquiry to nab the accused who was involved in the murder.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, V Sivabalan, 32, of Madampalayam, surrendered before the Punjaipuliyampatty police in connection with Murugan murder.

Sivabalan had borrowed Rs20,000 from Murugan six months ago. “At one stage, Murugan started pestering Sivabalan to repay the amount,” police said. On September 6, Murugan severely warned Sivabalan to give back his amount at the earliest. “Irked over this, Sivabalan rammed his van against Murugan’s bike. He then got down from the van and beat Murugan’s head with a steel rod,” police said.

Based on Sivabalan’s confession, police altered the case as murder from accident case. Later, police produced the accused before the judicial magistrate of Sathyamangalam sub-court and lodged him at the

Gobichettipalayam

sub-jail under judicial custody.
