Youth killed, 2 kids hurt in hit-and-run

NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old youth who was returning home after completing arrangements of his sister's marriage, which was scheduled for Wednesday, was knocked down by a speeding car on Monday night. The accused fled the spot and could not be identified till Tuesday evening.
The incident took place on Monday night when Vinay Jindal, a resident of Vivek Vihar area in East Delhi, was returning home around 11:30pm.When Vinay reached Kasturba Nagar red light, a speeding car hit him from behind.
He was grievously injured and was taken to the nearby Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan in Karkardooma where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Police said that the car after moving a few meters away from the spot hit another two-wheeler on which a couple and two children were travelling.
"The two children suffered minor injuries and were also taken to hospital for treatment" said a senior police official.
Fighting against all the odds alone, Vinay had managed to arrange his sister's marriage. Their father died when both were very young. Vinay's sister and mother have not been able to overcome the shock of the accident, their close ones said.
Police said a case has been registered against unknown person for rash driving and causing death by negligence.
