Yamuna’s big makeover: Why Delhi’s long-awaited boat tourism push is racing for February debut

The cruise service will operate on a picturesque 7–8 km round-trip corridor between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur, located upstream of the Wazirabad Barrage. This carefully selected stretch of the Yamuna has been developed to offer uninterrupted views, calm waters and a smooth navigation channel, allowing visitors to experience Delhi’s river landscape like never before.

Two hybrid boats powered by electric and solar energy will form the core of the service, ensuring clean and quiet movement along the river. The Hybrid Yamuna Cruises will include essential safety and modern passenger systems such as life jackets, emergency equipment, navigation aids and public announcement systems. These features ensure that visitors can enjoy a secure, comfortable and informed river journey, making the cruise suitable for families, tourists and daily leisure users.

To support smooth operations, two floating jetties have been installed at Sonia Vihar, each with the capacity to accommodate 50 passengers at a time. These jetties have been designed to support stable boarding, efficient crowd management and easy access to the hybrid boats, ensuring a seamless experience from entry to departure.

Hybrid Yamuna Cruises will offer a wide range of attractions including ecological trails, scenic walking paths, a kids’ play zone, a mini golf putting area, an open amphitheatre, curated sound-and-light installation zones and food truck spaces.
