Work resumes on Kondli Bridge after a year, to ease jams
New Delhi: Commuters are set to get relief from persistent congestion near Kondli Bridge as work has resumed on an incomplete bridge that was pending since last year. The initiative aims to streamline traffic for those drving on the Noida Link Road towards Anand Vihar and adjoining areas.
The bridge links several key routes, including Noida-Ghaziabad Marg, Kalyanpuri-Khadipuri Road and Chand Cinema Road. Heavy traffic and several signals in the area frequently lead to long jams. Due to the high volume of vehicles on these routes, congestion remains a problem.According to officials, the bridge was 85% complete when work was halted. It was stopped because of design modifications, which led to a revision in the project cost. Initially estimated at Rs 25 crore, the revised expenditure increased to Rs 37 crore. With the modified budget approved, the remaining funds were allocated, and construction restarted.Once completed, the bridge will facilitate smoother movement from Kalyanpuri and Khadipuri towards Ghaziabad without a stop at the Kondli Bridge traffic signal. Similarly, commuters from Ghaziabad will be able to proceed towards Kondli without interruption. The project is expected to significantly reduce waiting time at signals and decongest the busy junction. The bridge also benefits motorists coming through the Noida Link Road towards Ghazipur and Anand Vihar. Vehicles from Ghazipur will find it easier to access Kondli, Vasundhara Enclave, Dallupura and Mayur Vihar Phase-III. Officials said work began in 2022 to construct flyovers on both sides of the drain near Kondli Bridge. One side connects Kalyanpuri-Khadipuri Road towards Ghazipur, while the other side links to the road leading to Ghaziabad. The dual-structure plan is intended to segregate traffic flow and minimise bottlenecks. The two bridges being built at a cost of Rs 37 crore are expected to benefit approximately 1.2 lakh commuters. With construction now back on track, authorities aim to complete the remaining work in next three to four months.
