NEW DELHI: An aspiring model, Atal Bihari (23), shot at a woman working with an advertising agency inside her office in Bhikaji Cama Place on Thursday afternoon.
Bihari, a resident of Narela, shot the victim, Gurmeet Kaur, in her stomach. She was admitted in Aashlok hospital and was said to be out of danger. "Kaur bled profusely, but doctors said she would be fine after an operation," deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Tejinder Luthra said.
He said that the incident took place in the basement of Ansal Chambers-II building.

"The accused had gone to meet Kaur. The two had an argument, and then Bihari took out a locally-made pistol and shot at her," Luthra added. The police have seized the firearm from the spot. They also have the accused''s address.
Bhavna, the proprietor of Media Adlink where Kaur works as a counsellor, said she heard the shot at 1.30 pm. "I was in my cabin. Kaur''s cabin is in front of mine. Since some child models were present in the office, I thought somebody had broken a glasspane," she said.
The shot also alarmed the staff in an adjacent office. "I thought an air-conditioner had caught fire," Vimal Sharma said. But when Bhavna came out of her cabin, she saw Kaur bleeding. "She had put her hand on her stomach to stop the bleeding," Bhavna said.
Sharma, who also came out of his office, said: "Before collapsing in front of my office, Kaur told us she had been shot by the accused, and needed medical aid."
She was taken to the hospital in an autorickshaw. According to Bhavna, Kaur had joined her office a year back. The police said the victim lived alone in Safdarjung Enclave. Her mother stays in Karol Bagh.
Bhavna said Bihari had visited her office four months back to submit his profile. They had shortlisted him for a screening test. Bhavna added that Kaur had counselled Bihari and the two were in touch constantly.
"He had come to meet me a month back. I gave him time thinking it was a professional appointment. But he said he had spent a lot of money on Kaur and wanted to marry her," Bhavna said, adding she refused to pay heed to his request and said it was his personal matter.
