The family of a 35-year-old woman alleged that she delivered stillborn twins at the gates of a government hospital here after she was denied admission.
NEW DELHI: The family of a 35-year-old woman on Friday alleged that she delivered stillborn twins at the gates of a government hospital here after she was denied admission. The woman, Indu, according to her family, was seven months pregnant and was taken to GTB Hospital in East Delhi in the morning complaining of pain in the abdomen. Indu's husband alleged that the hospital denied her admission, saying she did not have a 'delivery card', which is given to pregnant women who go to a particular hospital on a regular basis for check-up till the delivery.
The woman, who already has three children, then reportedly delivered stillborn twins at the gates of the hospital. However, the hospital's Medical Superintendent P C Dixit denied the allegations.
He said Indu was four months' pregnant and when she came to the hospital, she was advised abortion as she was very anaemic. "She was all alone when she came and was advised to inform her relatives," Dixit said. "She went back and there was no news from her. After some time, I was informed about her state at the hospital gate. I rushed her to the emergency and got the child aborted," he said. Dixit added the woman is admitted to the hospital and her condition is alright now.
