Woman blames in-laws in death note
NEW DELHI: Three years after she alleged harassment for dowry and rape by her in-laws, 23-year-old Shalini Mallik hanged herself to death in her Prashant Vihar home early morning on Sunday. She left behind a suicide note saying that her husband, brother-in-law and their parents had forced her to end her life.
The victim had allegedly been threatened by her in-laws on Friday after a court hearing in the case.

Daughter of an MCD assistant engineer, Shalini was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room around 5 am by her mother Kusum.
She used her dupatta to hang herself. The police have registered a case of dowry death but they have not made any arrest in the case as yet.
Shalini got married to Sandeep Solanki, son of Rohini-based property dealer Balbir Solanki, on May 9 2002. Exactly three months later, she got a case of cheating, dowry harassment and rape registered in Prashant Vihar police station.
She alleged in the FIR that immediately after the marriage, the Solankis asked her to get Rs 5 lakh from her father to help them set up a factory. She further alleged that she had been raped by her brother-in-law, Sanjeev. Sandeep, Sanjeev, Balbir and his wife, Jaishree, were arrested but released on bail later.
Shalini also returned to her parents and had been living with them for the past three years. All this while, said her father Om Pal Singh Mallik, her in-laws flooded her with threatening phone calls.

On Friday, Shalini was very disturbed after attending the court hearing where the alleged rape had been discussed. "She was in tears when she came out. Then her husband and in-laws threatened her on the court premises and also came to our home to warn us," said Mallik.
"For the past three years, they had been trying to intimidate her into withdrawing the complaint against them. Things came to such a stage that we had to stop her from going to college," added Mallik.
Shalini was doing her B Com from Dyal Singh College and was currently in the third year. Her 21-year-old brother is also a third-year B Com student in SRCC College.
