NEW DELHI: AAP on Sunday said the Rajendra Nagar bypoll win proved the "unprecedented" public support the party enjoyed in Delhi and that it would win the municipal elections, whenever they were held.
"I want to thank the people of Rajendra Nagar. I am grateful to each and every person who voted for AAP. This is their victory. I want to thank all AAP workers who were involved in these elections and worked tirelessly," MLA-elect Durgesh Pathak told reporters, attributing the victory to chief minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.
Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia took to social media to congratulate Pathak. “It is the effect of the growing love for Arvind Kejriwal ji across the country that BJP was not able to remove him from the hearts of the people even by putting in all the strength of the central government," he tweeted in Hindi.
AAP Delhi convenor and cabinet minister Gopal Rai said he wanted to challenge BJP on behalf of the entire party that Kejriwal's work-oriented politics and pride and honour of AAP workers would overpower them. “We fought with you earlier and emerged victorious. We fought today and the results were the same,” he said. “We have emerged victorious in Rajendra Nagar and we are of staunch belief that we can win the MCD elections too, whether you conduct them today, tomorrow or any day of your choice," Rai said.
“People of Delhi have given up on you (BJP). They don't trust or love you anymore,” Pathak said. "I want to challenge you to conduct MCD elections if you have the guts. Delhi wants to get rid of you completely,"“ he added.
