NEW DELHI:
Aditya Jain, who died in Wednesday morning’s accident on the Gurgaon expressway, would have turned 20 next week. His shocked mother cannot come to terms with the loss of her only son. “He left home at 9.30 pm on Tuesday saying he was going out with friends, and we were worried when he didn’t return home till the morning. We just don’t know what happened,” she said on returning home from her son’s cremation. Aditya was a second-year computer science student at Kurukshetra University.
Outside the Ber Serai residence of the Pawar family, Rohit Pawar’s shiny new bike stands like a sad reminder of his 20th birthday in April. Rohit loved fast automobiles and the bike was his birthday gift.
Even the car he was driving on Wednesday morning was a new acquisition in the family. A wall in the Pawar home where Rohit’s picture hung till Wednesday morning is now vacant.
His mother Sahib Kaur, unable to see his smiling face, had it taken down. “His younger sister, Arati, is in shock, and hasn’t been able to react to the incident. She hasn’t said anything, nor shed a single tear,” said Rohit’s uncle Rishi.
Sanjeev (24) or ‘Sheru’, as his friends and family liked to affectionately call him, lived with his childhood friend Rinku in a flat in Ber Sarai, and worked as a freelance visa consultant.
“He was one of my closest friends, and we had been living together for the past six months,” said a broken Rinku.
Jatin, the only survivor, is the youngest son of a Delhi Police employee, Vinod Tyagi, and has two unmarried sisters. The family resides in Ansal Police Colony. Currently admitted in Artemis Hospital in Sector 61, Gurgaon, he has sustained severe injuries and is in a critical condition.
“He is on the ventilator, and doctors say they will try to stabilise him over the next few days, but we can’t say anything as of now,” said his uncle, Satish Kumar.
