Vote for Narendra Modi to be part of India’s progress: Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in Delhi
NEW DELHI: A day before the campaign ends in Delhi, Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis took part in a roadshow to garner votes for Praveen Khandelwal, the BJP candidate from the Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency, on Tuesday.
The roadshow, which started from Multani Chowk in Paharganj, passed through all the major parts of Sadar Bazar, Chawri Bazar and Lahori Gate before ending at Chandni Chowk.
“BJP is going to win all the seats in Delhi. The way Modi ji is getting support from the people, and the way Praveen Khandelwal is receiving love from the people, tells us that everyone has Modi in mind and heart. Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has been exposed for the way he has taken U-turns on so many issues,” said Fadnavis.
Khandelwal said that because of the guarantee of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, people were getting houses instead of slums. “Before this, no govt had thought about this issue. I will build such houses in more places like this, this is my promise. The pace at which the country is progressing is the best example of Modi’s guarantee. This is a new India and if you want to follow the path of progress, then come out of your homes and vote and make BJP win with a huge majority,” the candidate added.
Sandeep Kumar, who is a local travel agent in Chandni Chowk, however, said, “Aam Aadmi Party and Congress are fighting together this time and they may overpower BJP.”
It seemed to be a saffron storm in the congested lanes of Ram Nagar as the convoy was full of flags, vehicles and individuals, all adorned insome form of saffron. E-rickshaws carrying saffron flags fixed on their roofswere moving in the convoy in large numbers.
The roadshow primarily focused on the central leadership of Modi while local issues took a back seat.
The cavalcade of the deputy minister caused traffic congestion in the Walled City during peak evening hours. The route largely covered commercial areas with establishments such as restaurants, small shops, private hospitals and gymnasiums. Out of curiosity, people working in these places also came out to take selfies and make videos on their phones.
Most of the shopkeepers were out of their shops, showing their support to Khandelwal, who himself is a trader. He has been championing the cause of local traders for years, said a local trader.
But Mohammed Shahid, who works at a ration shop in Ram Nagar, appeared quite uninterested. “There is nothing here except for unemployment and inflation. No matter who wins, they will not come here after the elections,” he said.
The area is known for its affordable hotels, lodges, and a wide variety of shops.
