NEW DELHI: The Delhi HC on Wednesday gave six weeks to ex-BJP Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy to vacate his official bungalow here, noting that the government is not obliged to provide accommodation to people protected by Z-category security.

Swamy had requested that he be allowed to stay in the bungalow, allotted to him on January 15, 2016, because arrangements for Z security may not be possible at his private residence. Justice Yashwant Varma said the official house was allotted for five years and that period has ended.

The court also said it has not been shown any material that mandates and requires the allotment of government accommodation to a Z-category protectee.

Swamy's term as an RS member ended in April.
