NEW DELHI: A

61-year-old woman

by two

bike-borne men

at south Delhi’s

Sukhdev Vihar

on Saturday.

A preliminary probe revealed that Madhu Soni was returning home in an auto rickshaw from central market in

Lajpat Nagar

at 4.30pm on Saturday when the incident happened. Soni told cops that after boarding the auto, she saw the driver attending a phone call near a traffic signal at Garhi village. The caller allegedly asked the driver where he was going and he said he was taking a passenger to Sukhdev Vihar.

Investigating officers said that a little later, the driver slowed down the auto at a desolate stretch at Sukhdev Vihar road near Dev Samaj School and two men on a motorcycle stopped next to them. Soni told officers that one of the men put a gun on her forehead, while his associate asked her to hand over all the valuables. Soni gave away her gold bangles, iPhone and around Rs 1.57 lakh that she was carrying. The robbers fled with the money and the valuables.

Soni’s son Rahul said that upon checking the CCTV footage of the area, they noticed that the men who had robbed his mother had conducted a recce of the spot and were waiting for the auto rickshaw.

During investigation, officers were told that the registration details of the bike had ‘4067’ and the information is being collaborated with the CCTV footage. Family members of Soni told police that the auto driver waited outside the housing colony for around seven minutes after dropping her.

Cops are also probing the role of the driver in the robbery and are gathering details about him. A case under IPC Section 397 (robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) has been registered.
