NEW DELHI: A month before Christmas and New Year celebrations, drugs have started to flow into the capital. Two people, Jatin Gupta (25) and Florian Heindl (36), carrying psychoactive drugs LSD and MDMA, have been arrested by the crime branch in separate instances.
Gupta was arrested from Pankha Road in Uttam Nagar of southwest Delhi on Wednesday night.
He was found in possession of 100 LSD papers, which he claimed to have procured from one Jujhar Kathuria. These paper squares are placed under the tongue for a ‘trip’, officials said.
Lysergic acid diethylamide, also known as acid, is usually carried in the form of small paper squares the size of a stamp making its detection difficult. It is considered the most psychoactive substance available in the market. LSD users experience extreme euphoria and hallucinations for up to eight hours after consumption. They also experience sweating, thirst and anxiety while on the trip.
In the second incident, 36-year-old German national, Heindl, was arrested from a hotel room in Paharganj with 69 grams of MDMA. He had going to collect the consignment and sell it further. A resident of Stadtbergen, Heindl has been visiting India since 2013. He arrived here on October 2.
MDMA, popularly known as ecstasy, is a psychoactive drug and is usually moved in the form of crystallised tablets or powder form.
“Both the arrested men are being questioning to find out who all are involved in the trade and the route taken to bring drugs in the city. Gupta and Heindl were arrested by a team led by DCP (crime branch) Rajesh Deo,” said joint commissioner (crime) Alok Kumar.
