Two DU colleges receive bomb threats

New Delhi: Two Delhi University institutions — Ramjas College and Miranda House — in north Delhi were evacuated following a bomb threat email received on Monday morning.

The message was reportedly sent at 10.53am to the official email addresses of the college principals. In the email, the sender stated that a series of explosions would occur later in the day, around 12.50pm, and claimed that as many as 13 bombs filled with toxic gases had been planted on the premises.




Interestingly, while the main body of the email did not explicitly detail the bomb threat, the subject line itself contained a warning about possible explosions.

Taking no chances, authorities initiated precautionary measures. Bomb disposal teams (BDT) and dog squads were deployed to inspect the campuses but the threats were declared a hoax.

The principal of Ramjas College, Ajay Arora, told the media that they evacuated the entire building before authorities arrived. “This is the third time that we have gotten such a threat,” he said, adding that at any given point there are at least 3,500 students present, who were all evacuated within seven to eight minutes.
