Two DDU staff held in Rs 70 lakh govt medicine diversion racket
New Delhi: While investigating a racket in which govt-supplied medicines meant for free distribution through hospitals were being diverted for private sale, Delhi Police’s crime branch made two additional arrests, including a pharmacist and a contractual helper at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
Police seized a total of medicines worth Rs 70 lakh in the operation. The accused, Binesh Kumar, 54, and Prakash Mehto, 30, told cops that they were operating in the network for the past one and a half years through a chain of brokers.
Binesh was found to have allegedly diverted the medicines from hospital stock by manipulating records to reduce supply entries. He was also allegedly coordinating with the previously arrested co-accused Neeraj Kumar, 53, Sushil, 46, and Laxman Mukhia, 47.
