The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested two engineers of North Delhi Municipal Corporation who went into hiding following the arrest of then managing director of Micromax who was allegedly caught red-handed while paying bribe to civic body officials seeking clearance for construction of a banquet hall.

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested two engineers of North Delhi Municipal Corporation who went into hiding following the arrest of then managing director of Micromax who was allegedly caught red-handed while paying bribe to civic body officials seeking clearance for construction of a banquet hall. Superintendent engineer Rajesh Wadhwa and assistant engineer M K Gupta were arrested from a Jaipur hotel, CBI sources said.

On August 7, the CBI carried out searches at 15 locations in connection with the bribery scandal arresting then MD of Micromax, Rajesh Agarwal, along with a sum of Rs 30 lakh which was allegedly meant for Wadhwa, other engineers and junior staff.
After the arrest, Agarwal stepped down from his position. “Rajesh Agarwal, co-founder, Micromax Informatics Limited, has stepped down from his duties and recused himself from responsibilities. He will focus on the legal proceedings to clear his name of the alleged charges,” Micromax had said in a statement.
In the statement, the company clarified that Manish Tuli has no association with the company. “Rajesh Agarwal was present with Manish Tuli in a personal capacity,” the statement said.
CBI teams carried out searches resulting in cash recoveries worth Rs 74 lakh from the residence of a corporation junior engineer, Kapil Dev.
