Delhi Police on Wednesday questioned two contractors in connection with the death of Kamal Dhyani who fell into an open DJB pit in Janakpuri and died. Police sources said contractors Himanshu Gupta and his brother Kavish were questioned for around eight hours about the incident, including issues related to the maintenance of the DJB pit. They were allowed to leave after the questioning.
After the brothers moved an application for anticipatory bail, a court directed police on Tuesday not to take any coercive action against them until Feb 18 as they had agreed to appear before the investigating officer on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the victim's family held a press conference on Wednesday, demanding accountability. His father, Naresh Dhyani, said the incident should never be repeated and he did not want any other family to endure a similar tragedy due to alleged negligence. "Whoever is responsible for the negligence should be held accountable and face strict action."
Kamal probably fell into the pit around midnight on Feb 6, but a few people associated with the work allegedly decided not to report it. His body was finally found around 8am after a passer-by alerted police. TNN
