NEW DELHI: A day after a

man

was

stabbed

with

swords and knives

for protesting against consumption of

drugs inside a public toilet

, two men have been arrested for the attack. The accused, Sonu and Sahil, are drug addicts. The men are thieves and had also threatened to harm Rahul if they revealed their names to the police.

Sonu and Sahil were caught from their houses in Nihal Vihar and Mundka. “A team led by inspector (special staff) Sukhbir Malik identified the accused from the statement of the victim’s mother and tracked them down,” said DCP (outer) MN Tiwari. The men were wearing bloodstained clothes when they were arrested. A button-operated knife used in the murder has been seized from them.

The incident was reported around 8pm on Tuesday when Rahul was returning to his house in

Nangloi

through Punjabi Market. The pay-and-use toilet there usually remains empty after dark and is a hangout for drug addicts. Rahul asked the men to leave the toilet which resulted in an argument. A minor scuffle followed during which Rahul pushed them out of the toilet.

A few minutes later, the youths returned with others and called Rahul out of his house. He was stabbed with knives and swords multiple times as soon as he stepped out.

Rahul’s father was a guard at the toilet, but he died three years ago. His elder brother then took over the job, but he too died under mysterious circumstances. His family believes that drug addicts were involved in his death as well.

The family has been maintaining the toilet for the past 12 years. Rahul’s cousin Amit said that the presence of smack addicts inside the toilet has been affecting their business. Rahul’s mother Shyamlata had abused the youths earlier that day, which could have been the trigger for the attack.
