NEW DELHI: Joint commissioner of police (traffic) Satyendra Garg and deputy commissioner of police (south) Prem Nath had a close shave on Tuesday night when a truck almost ran them over despite being flagged down near the DND flyway.
The incident occurred around 8.50pm when cops were checking traffic congestion in the area during the evening peak hours.

Spotting a truck coming from DND, the officers flagged it down as heavy vehicles are not allowed in the city at that time.
“Instead of slowing down, the truck driver stepped on the gas and DCP Prem Nath pulled JCP Garg away from its’ path at virtually the last minute. A head constable standing behind them had to actually roll away from the path of the vehicle,” said a source. Police are filing an attempt to murder case against the driver who allegedly locked his vehicle and managed to run away.
“The vehicle appears to belong to the sand mafia as it was carrying a sand load. It is a Haryana-registered vehicle, probably from Mewat. The driver probably panicked as he thought he would get caught,” added the source.
Police said the truck was standing near the toll plaza, and was being driven slowly out of it when it was first spotted by cops. The vehicle has been impounded. Cops are trying to find the owner of the vehicle.
