New Delhi: A cultural programme was organised at the

Delhi Legislative Assembly

on Sunday to pay tribute to legendary environmentalist

Sunderlal Bahuguna

, who was the face of the famous

Chipko Movement. Deputy chief minister

Manish Sisodia said Bahuguna’s life was full of struggles, but he kept working for society with a smile on his face. “He was a source of inspiration not only for Uttarakhand’s residents but for all Indians,” he said in a statement.

Assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel said Bahuguna’s efforts for the environment and the country made him immortal. He said the programme could not be organised in December due to Covid-19 but a grand event would be organised in his memory in the coming times. He appealed to the people of Uttarakhand and Delhi to celebrate Bahuguna’s birth anniversary on the lines of Gandhi Jayanti.
