Traffic Trouble After Rain Again, Motorists Hit
New Delhi: Severe traffic snarls and waterlogging were witnessed in many areas across Delhi after the Monday rain. Motorists who were caught unawares faced huge inconvenience, as vehicles crawled at a snail's pace during the peak hours.Among the stretches most adversely affected were Press Enclave Road, particularly in the carriageway from Saket Court towards Malviya Nagar, and both carriageways between Dhaula Kuan and Mahipalpur on NH-48. Ring Road experienced substantial congestion in the carriageway from DND Flyway to Moolchand Underpass, primarily due to waterlogging in the vicinity of Lajpat Nagar. The traffic chaos extended to both carriageways of Outer Ring Road and the carriageway from Safdarjung towards Dhaula Kuan on Ring Road. The carriageway from Badarpur towards Mehrauli on MB Road, the stretch between Kalindi Kunj and Okhla Estate Road, and Mayapuri Chowk were also severely impacted.Motorists, especially office-goers, had a harrowing time on roads and they poured out their woes online.Pramod Kumar, an X user, stated, "There was an immense traffic jam at NH-48 on the stretch from Mahipalpur towards Dhaula Kuan. The vehicles were crawling at a snail's pace, and there was a conspicuous absence of traffic police personnel to alleviate the congestion."Another X user, Sandeep, expressed his frustration, stating, "It has merely rained for 15 minutes, and Mayapuri Chowk is already jampacked. I should have reached my destination by now, but I am stranded here due to the massive traffic gridlock."The situation was worsened by a truck breakdown in the stretch between Ashram and Badarpur on Mathura Road. Furthermore, the traffic flow in the carriageway near Moolchand Underpass on Ring Road was hampered by the breakdown of a medium goods vehicle near Ashram Chowk. A bus broke down at Lal Sai Traffic Signal, Lajpat Nagar, further impeding the movement of vehicles on Ring Road.To add to the commuters' woes, traffic signal lights were inoperative at several crossings, including Nangloi Railway Metro Station junction and the traffic signal at the D-Block entry in Vasant Kunj. This left the commuters perplexed and contributed to the overall traffic mayhem in Delhi.A traffic police official told TOI, "Whenever it rains in Delhi, severe traffic congestion ensues, primarily due to waterlogging. The relevant traffic inspectors are being apprised of the congested stretches, and traffic police personnel have been deployed at various affected locations to manage the situation."
